The European Union Department is responsible for:

a) actively following EU activities in the fields of research and innovation as well in the field of Space;

b) making use of opportunities for Greek scienctific and technological activities to be funded or co-funded by the EU;

c) proposing participation of Greece in programmes and actions co-funded by the ongoing EU Research and Innovation Framework Programme and, more generally, in programmes launched pursuant to articles 179-189 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union under «Title XIX: Research and Technological Development and Space»;

d) proposing candidates to be appointed as national representatives in groups and committees of EU institutions and in ad hoc meetings; appointing national representatives to participate in committees, expert groups, intermediate bodies and structures for the implementation of joint EU programmes with other EU Member States, whether funded by the EU or not; furthermore, it is responsible for securing the required national financial contribution for such participation;

e) coordinating and participating in joint programmes, co-financed through EU and national funds;

f) contributing in shaping national positions in the Research, Innovation and Space fields in the Council of Europe; implementing actions and initiatives arising from Council decisions;

g) addressing any other relevant issues.
