Renewal of membership of the National Council for Research and Innovation (NCRI)

Law No 4310/2014 on “Research, Technology Development and Innovation and other provisions” (Government Gazette A’ 258), as amended and in force, provides, by way of exception, for a two-year mandate for half of the Council members (Art. 12, par. γ’).

 

In accordance with the procedure described in article 12 of Law No 4310/2014 and following the Open Call for expression of interest for participation in the National Council for Research and Innovation (NCRI) (Ref. no 196603-16/11/2018) with respect to five (5) expert members in the identified research fields, Alternate Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs selected, among the list of candidatures drawn up by the candidate evaluation committee, the following five (5) members:

 

  1. Asimakopoulos Demosthenes, Professor Emeritus of Environmental Physics, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
  2. Katsanevas Stavros, Director-General of the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO), Italy.
  3. Kyriakopoulos Konstantinos, Professor of Robotics & Controls Control Systems Lab., Mechanical Engineering Dept., National Technical University of Athens.
  4. Kyrpides Nikolaos, Head, Microbial Genomics and Metagenomics Super Program at the DOE Joint Genome Institute, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LNBL), California, USA.
  5. Tsesmelis Emmanuel, Senior Physicist at CERN and a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford UK.

 

In accordance with the Ref. no 33332-4/3/2019 Decision by Alternate Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs (Government Gazette Y.O.D.D. 154), the Council membership was renewed as follows:

  2. Savakis Charalambos, Professor Emeritus, Medical School of the University of Crete, Council Vice-chair.

  11. Roussou Anna, Professor of Linguistics, Department of Philology, University of Patras, Greece, Member.
  12. Salachas Georgios, Professor of Plant Physiology and Nutrition, Deputy Rector for Academic Affairs, Western Greece University of Applied Sciences (TEI of Western Greece) and member of the Regional Scientific Council for Research & Innovation of Western Greece, Member.
  13. Soukoulias Petros, Vice-chair of the Regional Scientific Council for Research & Innovation of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Mentor at SEEMS PC, a startup in medical research applications, Member.
  14. Spyratos Nikolas, Professor Emeritus, Université Paris-Sud 11, Centre d’Orsay, Laboratoire de Recherche en Informatique, Member.
  15. Tsesmelis Emmanuel, Physicist (Particle Physics), Senior Physicist and Head of Relations with Associate Members and Non-Member States at CERN, Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford and at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Member.
  16. Floratos Emmanuel, Professor Emeritus, Department of Physics, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Member of the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC), Member.
  17. Hontzopoulos Elias, Co-Founder and Vice-President of PRIME Laser Technology SA, representing the business community, Member.

 

The National Council for Research and Innovation (NCRI) is the supreme advisory body for drawing up and implementation of the national policy for Research, Technology and Innovation in Greece; it supports the Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs and the Secretary General for Research and Technology in addressing issues falling within their competence.
