The Minister of Development & Investments Adonis Georgiadis, in the presence of Deputy Minister Christos Dimas, has signed a cooperation agreement with the United States in the field of science and technology.

The U.S.-Greece Science and Technology Agreement was signed, on behalf of the US Government by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Also present at the signing ceremony  were Deputy Minister Christos Dimas and Deputy Foreign Minister Costas Frangogiannis, on behalf of the Greek government, as well as US Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering and Chief Technology Officer Michael Kratsios and the US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt.

Through this agreement, the two countries will establish an official basis for cooperation in the field of scientific and technological research that will expand and strengthen the implementation of cooperative actions in areas of common interest and encourage uptake of the results of this cooperation to their mutual economic and social benefit. Speaking on behalf of the Greek Government at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Christos Dimas, after welcoming Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Greek- American Chief Technology Officer Michael Kratsios, to the capital of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, pointed out:

"Greece had concluded a bilateral agreement with the United States on research and technology in 1980, but this remained inactive and needed updating. Last fall, in the context of the strategic dialogue with the United States, I put this issue on the table. Last winter in Washington, we agreed with Michael Kratsios and the National Science Foundation to expand and deepen the agreement. Today we sign a new agreement. We believe that this will contribute to further strengthening the links between the two countries in the fields of science, research, technology and innovation. With the institutional framework now firmly in place, we look forward to further fruitful cooperation."
