Statement by the Secretary General for Research and Technology Dr. M. Kyprianidou at the "6th Technology Forum 2019"

Date:
17/4/2019

During a press conference, under the “6th Technology Forum2019” held on April 15, 2019 in Thessaloniki, the Secretary  General for Research and Technology Dr. M.Kyprianidou stated:

«This year’s “Technology Forum” has a quite interesting agenda focusing on the technologies of the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution, i.e. Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, etc.

Policy makers, the business community, the Universities, TEIs and Research Centres in Thessaloniki, the Region of Central Macedonia, etc. will address these exciting developments that produce rapid changes in science, technology and our daily lives.

The General Secretariat for Research and Technology is already supporting development research projects carried out by companies and research bodies in the above fields, through allocation of substantial funds. As regards “Horizon 2020”, Greece is doing well, ranking 8th in ICT funding among the EU28.

Today’s event constitutes an important contribution to the public debate on the challenges related to moral and ethical issues, data management, fake news, the rights of all citizens and, ultimately, the management of technology, avoiding extreme behaviors, fear or the cult of new technologies and guided by scientific truth and social responsibility.

The Greek government has increased public investment in research and technology to 2 billion euros; it has also helped increase the private-sector share, and is expected to create around 10,000 new high-quality jobs by 2021 in knowledge-intensive fields of the public and private sectors».
